If the phone is the center of all our communications, of all our non-face-to-face-interactions, pulling it out of pocket is still an inconvenience.
The main inspiration drawn from that clock looks to be the color scheme, which is at once easily readable, especially with the last 15 minutes of the countdown bezel marked out in yellow hashes (those hashes remind me safety markings on a plane, as well).
The beginning of World War I turned the industry inside out as most supplier firms quit making watches or other components and started using their machines and human resources to produce and sell ammunition. Since demand had been much greater for ammo than for fine watches, this was a rather obvious decision. Once the war was over though there was no need for such immense amounts of bullets and all these firms wanted to return to their normal activity to make ébauches and components again. And so they did, causing a sudden oversupply of their products. They all acted independently of one another as there were no powerful groups or authorities to control them. Consequently, it was much too late when they realized that the demand from watch making companies for such a vast amount of parts or ébauches was greatly insufficient.

Secondly, most racing cars of today are made of carbon fiber and its different iterations, while modern planes still largely rely on aluminum in their construction. Third, its lightweight characteristics make aluminum suit the Khaki Aviation collection far more harmoniously than its other counterparts, dedicated to "field" and "navy" operations. So, once Hamilton pulled the trigger on a new collection in aluminum, the Khaki Pilot Pioneer was the best way to introduce it.
It is safe to say then that a lot of effort has gone into making this watch a tourbillon, and a rather special one at that. Things get more, well, out of control with the astronomical indications of the Masterpiece No. 1. There are six of these on the dial and two on the case back, so let's go through them one by one. To begin with, there is a date, and no, it is not of the perpetual, not even of the annual kind: it is your simple date that requires correction at the end of every month that is less than 31 days long. The reason for this is that there was really no space left in the movement –or inside the already substantially sized case – for a more complicated version. One thing that does make it rather unusual though, is the date hand's rotation which is counter-clockwise, instead of the more usual clockwise direction. But never mind, there are a great number of other features that render this piece truly special.

The Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer entered the collection in 2009 and quickly became one of Glashütte Original‘s most recognizable timepieces. It is differentiated from the other watches in the collection as it adheres to the German Chronometer standard. While the accuracy standard of the German Calibrating Service, DKD, is similar to the more prevalent Swiss C.O.S.C. test, the German Chronometer standard requires the watch be tested after it’s fully assembled. Last year at Baselworld, Glashütte debuted a regulator version of the Senator Chronometer. This post compares the Glashutte Original Senator Regulator Chronometer to the original Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer.
Contrary to popular belief, the Rolex Submariner wasn't the first water-resistant watch - it wasn't even Rolex's first water-resistant watch. When Hans Wilsdorf founded the brand in the early 1900s, he was already focused on a singular concept: making solid, accurate watches for the average person. His watches were affordable, sold in large numbers and did the job they were supposed to do, admirably. The watch market already had its Rolls Royce and Aston Martin in the form of Patek Philippe and Jaeger-LeCoultre, what it needed was a Volkswagen, a hearty, reliable product for the masses, and that's what Wilsdorf provided.

Tritium gas tubes contain small amounts of self-glowing radioactive material that glows for about 20 years or more. The tubes take up a fair amount of space when stacked on one another compared to "normal" hands. Plus, as a dive watch I have a feeling Nite equipped the Aqua with a rather thick sapphire crystal (that they claim is triple AR coated). The deep dial is pretty cool actually, but at times it does seem as though the face is rather low into the case. Nevertheless I find it to be impressively legible from most angles.
We debuted the Cartier Calibre Diver here back before we got a hands-on look at it at the SIHH 2014 watch show. The Calibre has been one of our favorite men's pieces from Cartier and we've known that it was to serve as a foundation for a range of new models. While I sort of expected that 2014 was going to bring us a Calibre GMT, it rather gave us a diving version of the original. To be honest not that much is different from the standard three-hand Cartier compared to the Diver. Sure the diver has a rotating diver's bezel and a slightly bolder dial, but aside from the rubber strap and deeper water resistance this is the same classy men's watch I've come to really enjoy.

Google is no doubt aware of these issues and would not have released news about the Moto 360 or Android Wear if they were not at least mostly satisfied with the performance. Of course, to a large degree it is up to hardware and third-party software developers to help optimize the relationship between smartwatch and phone. Google or Motorola has thus far not specifically discussed the connectivity of the Moto 360, but it will likely use some version of Bluetooth. Personally, we look forward to a Bluetooth successor as I have been mostly disappointed with Bluetooth performance for years now.
