Calling it "Macho" is more of a playing naming scheme, and goes along with Ulysse Nardin's character. Other watches they have bear names like "Freak." The next part of the name is Palladium 950, which refers to a special type of Palladium metal used. You'll notice that new metals are used in their pure form in watch and jewelry making. Instead, countless alloys are used and created for literally thousands of niche purposes. Then there are those alloys that are so good, they can enjoy broad use. One such alloy is grade 316L steel, which is used on high quality steel watches. There is also Palladium 950.
The Early 1990s brought with it the Breitling Aerospace watch line. It was an impressive and technical looking watch that broke the mold by placing a quartz movement in what was typically a mechanical watch. To be fair, the watch had a robust feature set and contained not just any quartz, but a Breitling "Super Quartz" that was accurate to within 5 seconds a years. These special quartz movements were referred to as thermoline quartz movement watches. Search for the term on my site if you want to know more about them.
This new TheTimeTV video from HD3 featuring watch designer Fabrice Gonet offers a very interesting glimpse into the origin and philosophy behind HD3, and watch brands like it. The focus of the video is the pictured HD3 Bi-axial Tourbillon watch. This watch is important to me, because I had a similar idea for a watch like this in my head before I even knew that this watch was available. This involves the cylinder digital hour indicator, as well as the use of a dial for the minutes. The tourbillon displays the seconds, and its bi-axial rotation makes it an interesting novelty to look at. With only 11 pieces and a price about 0,000, you might ask yourself why watch novelties like this exist. In essence they are made for a very select, very well-off demographic.
Realizing the market success of its Big Bang series, Hublot could not pass up a chance to release several all black or all white versions of the popular watches. Two notable Big Bang watches for our purposes is the white Hublot Big Bang Aspen, and the aptly named Hublot Big Bang All Black. Funny enough, Hublot places a gold number "2" on the face of the watch that while quirky, seems to fit in nicely. While the Aspen is not the only white Big Bang, and the All Black is not the only black Big Bang, these are probably the most recognizable and well done of the black or white models in my opinion.
The specific gravity of 950 palladium is close to that of 14-karat white gold and nearly half the weight by volume of platinum. At the time of this writing, the daily market price of platinum was 2.00, gold was 0.00 while palladium was listed at 2.00 per ounce. The lightness of the 950 palladium alloys and pricing considerations, make them prime candidates for use in the creation of a broad spectrum of fashionably affordable as well as classically influenced jewelry designs."
